Round and square boards have always seemed a bit glamorous to me, a little Gatsby, a little Bond. I can picture them on a glass table at a cocktail party holding martinis - shaken not stirred, of course - with elegant crackers, mellow cheeses and savory sausage bites nestled at the foot of the board. People gather around them, talking and mingling, gliding in to take a sip and nibble a little something. While that is indeed one way these could be used, a little like Cinderella they likely spend more of their time in the kitchen where cooks are using the back side for chopping. Still, like our esteemed heroine, they come out in the evening, looking fine to shine at the ball.
